Silver Haze
The first Haze is vintage masterpiece of cannabis breeding – a harmonious blend of complementary equatorial genotypes that’s widely regarded as the purest and most powerful Sativa strain ever created. Sensi’s award-winning Silver Haze distils the sunny cerebral magic of her towering parent into a manageable strain with great indoor potential
Haze started out as a multiple-Sativa hybrid with roots in Central America, South India and Thailand. Developed in the days before indoor growing and cultivated below 30ºN, her breeders were not restricted by factors like height, yield or short summers. As indoor growing gained popularity in the Eighties, true Haze began to disappear. Though smokers still adored the soaring high, growers found her slow flowering, low yields and unstoppable height-gain impractical for indoor production.
Silver Haze was the first seed strain to offer a solution by delivering the full-strength Haze experience in a fatter, faster, more compact form. Together with NL#5xHaze (her taller sister), Silver Haze helped reverse the decline of the psychedelic Sativa. As soon as such frosted, pleasingly dense tropical crops could be produced efficiently with lights, ganja lovers all across the globe were able to sample that supreme high and the Haze cult rapidly spread far beyond its original circle of devotees.
The original Haze has had both its outrageous height gain and interminable flowering period brought under control by breeding with an extra-potent, non-dominant individual from the Northern Lights line. The dark Afghanica also throws its weight behind the feathery Sativa budding pattern, adding bulk without affecting flower formation.
Silver Haze should still be expected to triple her vegetated height in flowering, so seedlings and clones may be flowered almost immediately in close-cultivation methods like SOG.
Silver Haze buds are composed of long, silky pistils sprouting from oval calyxes which surge along the stem and branches to fill the gaps between internodes. Afghani influence is seen in the strain’s thick layers of silver resin glands and the way her calyxes swell, adding density in the final weeks of flowering.
Mother’s Finest
Another incredible hybrid with roots in the Jack Herer breeding program, this next-generation Sativa is one of Sensi’s more recent creations. Upon release, Mother’s Finest was an instant hit, winning first place for Sativa at the 2002 Cannabis Cup just a few months later.
Mother’s Finest is more a Hazey offshoot of the Herer line than a direct Jack-descendant. However, just like Jack Flash, Mother’s Finest is best understood as a purposeful fine-tuning of Jack Herer’s multi-faceted gene pool.
Jack Herer sits right on the cusp of the Sativa-Indica divide, Jack Flash is a Skunk-heavy variant and our gorgeous Mother’s Finest – with her sweet-sour flavour rush and ecstatic cerebral high – represents the Haze-dominant side of the family
Naturally, the most Sativa-leaning examples of Mother’s Finest will require the full flowering time, which is still a considerably shorter period than comparable Haze hybrids. Less frequent phenotypes with a stronger Indica influence can mature in eight weeks.
Mother’s Finest gains height quickly when blooming, even in her more Indica form, so growers with limited upward space should flower early. Like other mostly-Sativa hybrids, this strain can be put into 12/12 as rooted clones or small seedlings.
The divine sight and smell of Mother’s Finest in full flower will delight any lover of cannabis, right up to the most dedicated Sativa worshiper. Her conical bud formation takes shape early in flowering as profuse sprays of long-haired calyxes sprint along the stem and branches to join up the clusters at each internode. In later weeks, the spear-shaped colas expand into impressive lime green stalactites of crystal-smothered bud.
As her pistils darken, the calyxes of Mother’s Finest swell and harden, maximising the surface area available for resin glands to multiply. Some phenotypes display extra-vigorous production, forcing calyxes into miniature peaks at the top and sides of large buds, giving the main colas a wickedly horned look.
Elements of musky, fruity skunk and earthy Afghanica are clearly detectable beneath the sharp pine-Haze aroma of Mother’s Finest buds.
Maple Leaf Indica
A relatively new release as a seed, this fat, sticky hash-makers’ plant has long been prized for its sparkling coating of resin glands and syrupy sweet citrus bouquet.
Maple Leaf Indica is bred from precious, vintage Afghanica gene-stock – parent plants that have formed part of several important Sensi Seeds hybrids and which represent one of the surviving strains behind original Mazar-i-Sharif hashish.
The direct forebears of Maple Leaf Indica were brought out of Afghanistan just before the Soviet invasion and older smokers lucky enough to have visited the region in its peaceful era may find this variety to be a taste – and a blast – from the past.
Some of the earliest western references to the Maple Leaf parent strain describe both the plant and the hashish produced from it as “renowned throughout the Hindu Kush and the whole of the Middle East as the best there is.”
Even by the high standards of the region, Mazar-i-Sharif is a celebrated centre of cannabis and hashish culture, and prior to the Eighties its reputation was greater still. Situated just inside Afghanistan’s northern border, the town’s proximity to the territory of the former USSR made it one of the very first areas to be affected by the invasion. This threat was perhaps the only reason that the traditional cultivators of the Maple Leaf parent strain allowed it to leave their possession, and the collector who received the original seeds made it a personal mission to preserve this unique Indica.
The exodus of sublime Afghani genotypes during that period changed the face of ganja cultivation around the world and western growers have literally reaped the benefits ever since. Maple Leaf represents one of the finest Afghanica varieties ever seen outside the region, back-crossed to express the purity of her ancestors.
This strain quickly and easily produces solid buds that drip with and sugary orange-grapefruit flavours. While not the biggest-yielding Afghani in the Sensi collection, Maple Leaf Indica tops the list for resin production and has always been one of our personal favourites.
Four Way
This strain is an early success from programs to create stable, multiple-hybrid cannabis. Starting in the Eighties, intensive breeding projects worked with highly varied and complex gene pools which ‘stacked’ desirable features from a wide range of parents and ancestors to produce hybrids which could consistently express those traits in interesting combinations.
Generation after generation of excellent genotypes were cross-bred, with all seed-offspring closely observed and compared to identify the best individuals. Each generation of selected plants were either back-crossed with parents to stabilise desired traits or introduced to the next ganja genotype in the group.
Some breeding experiments continued for years, ultimately involving the cataloguing of staggering numbers of seedlings solely for selection and testing purposes.
Some of Sensi Seeds’ top hybrids have their roots in breeding projects of this scale. Many unique flavours, formations and effects introduced by Sensi strains were only possible through the sheer variety of genotypes we were able to combine, plus the dedication, detailed records and keen senses of the breeders responsible for selection.
Four Way is featured in some of the earliest seed-catalogues – a multiple Indica hybrid created from exceptional Indian, Afghani and Pakistani cultivars, all backed up with the vigour and high-octane punch of Skunk #1.
After some additional refinement to accentuate her best qualities, Four Way was re-launched in 1995 and has become lasting favourite among growers who want a strain capable of extraordinary appearance and taste, plus all the speed, bulk and power of the best Indicas.
As an early multiple hybrid, growers should expect a fair amount of variation when growing Four Way seeds. All phenotypes tend to be fast flowering, resinous and sweet, with some outstanding sets of features regularly showing themselves – extra-fat calyxes, exceptional flavours and aromas, explosive bud growth.
Four Way gives consistent, reliable Indica quality in a variety of forms, including occasional surprises in the form of fluke combinations of traits that make for unique, super potent or high-yielding mother plants.
Hash Plant
This precious Afghani is descended from one of the finest hash-making cultivars ever brought from the Hindu Kush to the west. Cannabis strains known generally as hash plants are found throughout the countries that border these mountains, but very few have the pedigree of this Hash Plant – a living definition of the stocky, chunky, beautifully sticky Afghanica genotype.
The direct ancestor of Hash Plant was developed in the Northwest USA and came to Holland as a few carefully-transported female cuttings. Upon arrival, the tiny, fragile Hash Plant clones were given a safe home in the Sensi Seed Bank breeding labs, where this outstanding cultivar quickly proved her worth, becoming an important building-block in several other Sensi hybrids.
Over the years, many experimental crosses were made in search of a pollen-father that could match up to the HP female and produce seeds worthy of the Hash Plant name. An equal partnership was eventually found in a male from Afghanica’s other royal family – the Northern Lights line. A 50/50 HP x NL#1 father was back-crossed to the original HP mother, which gave us the 75% HP-25% NL hybrid. Of all our breeding experiments, this crossing produced the strongest specimens by far – with even experienced Dutch smokers having trouble finishing a single joint. Thus the Hash Plant seed strain was born.
Hash Plant stays compact during her extra-short flowering time. Her tight, resin-drenched flower clusters develop a brittle surface when dried and give off a deep, rich Afghani aroma that’s undercut with a hint of hashish. When smoked, her dominant flavour is the spicy-sharp bite of smouldering resin glands, a sensation which quickly becomes indistinguishable from her effect. The instant vaporization of those layers of sparkling trichomes accelerates Hash Plant’s rapid, blissful and breathtakingly powerful body-stone.

Northern Lights
Northern Lights is one of three fundamental breeding strains that have changed the face of global cannabis culture over the last three decades. Apart from Skunk #1 and Haze, no variety comes close to matching Northern Lights’ influence on the world of weed. Whether you’re a smoker, a grower or a breeder, it’s more than likely this strain has had a direct effect on your understanding of ganja. Virtually every cannabis enthusiast has, at the very least, had their day brightened by a fat bud of Northern Lights or one of her hybrid descendants.
As far back as the Eighties, Northern Lights was setting the standard by which other Indicas are still judged and she remains one of the most trusted names and sought-after varieties in modern cannabis culture. For many years, Northern Lights dominated the various harvest festivals, winning cup after cup, leading to a more than one request that she be retired from competition in order to allow other strains a shot at the title.
Through years of selection and back-breeding between stellar examples of the three original Northern Lights variants, Sensi Seeds has adapted this picture-perfect Afghanica genotype for optimum indoor performance, making the world’s most powerful pure Indica accessible to every grower.
Northern Lights is compact, fast and very dense, capable of producing several generous, trouble-free crops per year from seed or clone. Her frosted buds possess a honey-musk aroma blended with an earthy Afghani undertone and a hint of juniper – highly enticing when dried and smoked, yet remarkably understated when growing and flowering.
Low odour and easy cultivation combined with big yields and exceptional resin production make Northern Lights the first choice in Indica – for both connoisseur quality and commercial quantity.
Jack Flash
How do you improve the best cannabis in the world? That was the big question when working on a new strain from the illustrious Jack Herer line.
Since we’ve always had a particular love for Sativas, one thing Sensi breeders really wanted to change was the myth that delicious, cerebral, tropical strains were too difficult or low-yielding for the average indoor grower. Actions speak louder than words, so creating a Jack hybrid with all the growing advantages of a Skunk seemed the best way to prove our point.
Jack Herer’s sublime gene-pool has been refined, with desired traits reinforced largely through back-crossing. Over multiple generations, our favourite Herer mother was infused with a precise blend of Super Skunk and Haze, undergoing rigorous selection and testing at every stage.
Jack Flash is the triumphant outcome of that program – inbred with the bulk and vigour of her Afghani-Skunk ancestors without sacrificing any of Herer’s sumptuous Haze high.
In isolating this particular balance of traits, the four common phenotypes of Jack Herer are reduced to two recurring forms in Jack Flash, representing the contrasting sides of her heritage. The Indica form is compact enough for SOG, with rapid and highly distinctive bud development. Calyxes swell to outrageous sizes, piling atop each other to form resin-saturated ropes which build into multi-point crowns on terminal buds.
The Sativa-dominant Jack Flash is astounding in every way. Growers with space for medium-to-large plants should select this phenotype as a mother, as her flavour, yield and mind-body potency are virtually unparalleled. Significant height gain in flowering, paired with the ability to completely fill out with solid, running, Skunk-Haze bud means that best results are seen in when Jack Flash’s Sativa form is allowed to finish at 1m or taller.
While most members of the Sensi family rate Northern Lights#5 x Haze or Jack Herer as their all-time favourite ganja, Jack Flash is another serious contender for the title and is steadily gaining ground on the two world champion Sativas.

Hindu Kush
This pure Indica seed-strain comes directly from the massive mountain range for which it is named. The Hindu Kush is the western spur of the Himalayas, covering half of Afghanistan and straddling the borders of Pakistan and India, reaching almost to China. This desolate and beautiful region forms an important trade-route between the Middle East, central Asia and the Far East and the ancient cannabis traditions of the surrounding cultures have met and merged here over centuries. Put simply, the Hindu Kush is the absolute centre of the world when considering true Indica or Afghanica genotypes and the various forms of black hashish produced from them
This cultivar has been selected for quality and stability over countless generations, always breeding within its own gene pool. Hindu Kush produces very consistent seedlings and is an excellent variety for uniform indoor crops grown straight from seed. Plants are dark green, squat and powerful with classic, broad-bladed Indica leaves. In warmer climates, below about 42ºN, Hindu Kush can flourish outdoors.
Flowering is strong and reliable, producing fast harvests of thick Afghani buds even in the hands of a novice grower. Hindu Kush has a subtle scent of sandalwood tinged with the sweet aroma of fresh charas. Potency is remarkably high for a non-hybrid strain, with the mellow, positive body vibration possessed by the famous high-altitude Indicas. Hindu Kush also imparts a calm, contemplative mental state, instead of the brain-numbing stone of later Indica, Afghanica and Skunk hybrids.
